The State Archive of Bern collects, registers, and preserves the canton's archival heritage. It contains all the canton's archival holdings worthy of preservation and makes them available to the public in its reading rooms.

Searching the Archives
The online archives catalogue allows you to search the State Archive's inventories from anywhere at any time.
Go to Online Archives, where you can submit individual queries and compile lists. In addition, thousands of photographs can be retrieved together with maps and plans.
At present around 90 per cent of the holdings in the State Archive are included in the online catalogue. The database contains around a half a million entries. New entries are continuously being added.
